For now, pasties (not what you think) of my deviations are posted to a small journal on Xanga created primarily for that purpose, with an associated community on Mybloglog located here, as a substitute for an individual gallery feed. The bulk of my commentary will, however, be on my journal here on this site, which I've dubbed "Darkroom without Shadows", as most of what you see came out of a computer, not a vat of chemicals.

That's by necessity, not choice. Given the resources, I'd be playing around with the chemicals and seeing what I could do, but developing my own film in my own real darkroom is one of those pleasures I can't afford.

I am an absolute beginner at this sort of thing, and know that I have much to learn, but am glad to learn it. In addition to the photomanipulation, at some point in the not too distant future, I'll start posting short stories here. I think you'll find the style slightly different from the harsher realism I employ elsewhere, and that I'll be a lot less shy about wandering into speculative fiction (science fiction, fantasy, etc) than I would be elsewhere.

A feed for this journal, at last!

A site that you might want to look at, if you've been frustrated by the lack of a feed for your DeviantArt journal, is feed43.com, where one can create a feed for a variety of sites. The process is not completely straightforward, but this article at Scripta Manent will explain all to those who approach it patiently. The only problem that I've had with my new feed so far is that it won't display on my MSN Livespace.

This makes a considerable difference, as I no longer am left in a position of asking my visitors to keep checking back for updates that are posted so infrequently. The new feed for this journal is found at

The unofficial name for this journal, one which DeviantArt's system won't let me enter, is "Darkroom Without Shadows". I'll explain that, later.

The feed43.com feed has stopped working, but DeviantArt has finally decided to provide one of its own:

It's not a satisfactory effort on DA's part - neither links nor spaces are successfully transmitted through the feed, which appears mangled when fed onto another site - but it's better than nothing. One can at least run a feed of just titles, automatically notifying readers of updates wherever that feed is seen.

At least there's that.
